in the back of every devil (Horde series); a shattered angel (Parasitica series), 2024
Framed drawings in pastel, charcoal, pencil, coloured pencil, tracing paper, two dreams bracketing one text message, a fortnight
in the back of every devil (horde series), and a shattered angel (parasitica series) are a series of notations. They were compulsively made wthin a fortnight after experiencing two dreams bracketing one text message. The drawings score an ineffable psychic interior. Chasing the interior, through a kind of ghost drift means returning to the scene of encounter through a detour of line. Each stroke and gesture cuts the body, draws it closer, re-enchants it. As I drew, I knew I had to pass through every ugliness witness the interior, and for the action to hold its full voltage.
I had no idea what the broader project was at the time, beyond compulsion, and that felt correct; drawing to me has to feel somewhat unknowable -- the excess of experience is what the line moves towards. There is an entwinement here between the act of drawing, its continuities and discontinuities, its insistence and repetitions, and the psychic line.
